They are celebrating Tanabata! There is a tradition of tying wishes onto a bamboo tree.  I drew this whilst at at my waitressing job at Japanese hibachi restaurant (not many people ate in for dinner)

Happy Mother’s Day! Here is Ikuko in the suit she wore when dropping baby Usagi off at school. It makes me wonder if she was a career woman before she settled down as a homemaker? Maybe she was still working when it was just Usagi, but when Shingo came along she decided to stop? I wonder if she worked at the same magazine company as Kenji. I can see these two as office sweethearts.
